Block walls in Chandler

Concrete block is the standard yard wall in Chandler. We build it on a proper footing, reinforce it, and finish it to match the house and the neighborhood.

Why are most Chandler yards walled with block?

Block holds up to what the desert throws at a yard: months of triple-digit sun, sprinkler overspray, dust storms and termites. It also gives full privacy, cuts street noise and matches the walls most subdivisions were built with. Wood and vinyl have their place, but for a lot-line wall that should last, block is the default here.

How do we build a block wall?

  • Layout and locate. We confirm where the wall goes and request a utility locate through Arizona 811 before digging.
  • Footing. A continuous concrete footing sized for the wall height. In caliche, digging takes longer, and we price that honestly.
  • Reinforcement. Vertical rebar grouted into the cells at set spacing, plus a bond beam near the top.
  • Cap and finish. A cap row, then paint, stucco or split-face block to match the house.

How tall can a block wall be in Chandler?

Chandler's homeowner permit manual sets fence and wall heights at up to 7 feet in rear and side yards and 3 feet in front yards. Walls up to 7 feet do not need a building permit, but every wall still needs zoning clearance from the city, which looks at placement and material. A wall that holds back more than 4 feet of soil, or a wall with a fence on top of a retaining wall, needs a permit. The city also notes that 4-inch-thick walls are not an approved retaining wall system. See Do I need a permit for a fence in Chandler?

Can the stucco match my HOA's color?

Usually. Many Chandler HOAs list approved wall colors and finishes in their design guidelines. Bring us the color name or a photo of the approval, and we will match it. Chandler's manual says stucco applied straight onto a CMU wall with no lath does not need a separate permit; systems that use lath do.

What does a block wall cost?

HomeAdvisor's national figures put a block privacy wall at about $10 to $30 per square foot of wall face, as of October 2026. A 6-foot wall has 6 square feet of face per running foot, so that works out to roughly $60 to $180 per linear foot before gates or demolition. That is our arithmetic, not a quote. See the Chandler cost guide.

Is a block wall the right call?

Pick block for a permanent lot-line wall, full privacy, or a pool perimeter. Pick iron view fencing where you would rather see the golf course or greenbelt. Pick vinyl for an inside divider where a footing is overkill.
