Wood fences in Chandler

We will be straight with you: wood is not the first choice for most Chandler yards. It still fits some jobs, and when it does, we build it to last as long as wood can here.

Why is wood less common in Chandler?

Intense sun and very low humidity dry wood fast. Boards shrink, check and gray, and fasteners loosen as the wood moves. Subterranean termites are also active in the Valley, and wood in contact with soil is what they look for. Block, iron and vinyl avoid both problems, which is why most new yards here use them.

When does wood still make sense?

  • Horizontal slat screens on patios, around equipment or on top of a short block base.
  • Short-term or budget fencing on a rental or a lot you plan to rebuild later.
  • A warm accent wall where the look matters most.

How do we make wood last longer here?

We keep wood off the ground on steel posts or concrete, use stainless or coated fasteners, and recommend a UV-blocking sealer from day one. Plan to reseal more often than you would in a cooler climate. Keep sprinklers off the boards.

Can a wood fence be part of a pool enclosure?

Not as the perimeter in Chandler. The city's pool fencing guidance says an existing wood fence must be changed to masonry, concrete or decorative fencing when a pool is installed. See pool fences.

What does wood cost?

As of October 2026, Angi lists wood fencing in the Phoenix area at about $10 to $45 per linear foot installed. It often looks cheaper up front than vinyl, but count the cost of sealing and earlier replacement.

Wood or vinyl?

Choose wood for a patio screen or accent where you want a natural look and accept upkeep. Choose vinyl if you want a similar privacy panel with no sealing and no termite risk.
